The most important cities of Sardinia are the current provincial capitals: Cagliari, Sassari, Olbia, Nuoro Oristano and Carbonia; furthermore there is Alghero by population. Other very populous towns, such as Quartu Sant’Elena and Selargius, are included in the metropolitan area of Cagliari.
Cagliari and Sassari are the only cities that exceed 100,000 inhabitants.
