In the heart of the Gulf of Oristano, in the municipality of Santa Giusta, lies Abarossa Beach, also known as the Cirras Dunes. It is a long beach, quiet and uncrowded even in the warmer months, ideal for those looking for an easily accessible corner of the sea in contact with nature.
An essential and authentic landscape
Arriving in Abarossa on a winter morning means finding an almost deserted place and walking along silent, flat paths until you reach the beach.

The sand, compact and damp, crunches gently underfoot. The sea, darker and deeper, advances with slow, regular waves, as if breathing…
Abarossa presents itself as a stretch of light, medium-grained, compact sand, with small dunes behind it that separate it from the plain of the Oristano countryside.
The vegetation near the beach is rather sparse, in a simple, almost minimalist landscape that invites us to admire the views.
To the south, we see the long beach that continues smoothly, lapped by the waters of the Gulf of Oristano – a single expanse of sand which however takes different names. Only in the distance do a few hills rise up, bordering the gulf. To the north, toward the mouth of the Tirso River, a few buildings and structures can be seen, part of the industrial port of Santa Giusta.
In front of us, the Sinis Peninsula can be seen, with the unmistakable silhouette of the Tower of San Giovanni overlooking the ruins of the ancient city of Tharros.

Getting to know the beach
As mentioned, we find ourselves in front of a very long stretch of light, uniform sand. The sea is characterized by a shallow, sandy seabed; the water is clear, with shades ranging from green to blue, which certainly become more pronounced in the summer months.
In recent years, Abarossa has become an accessible beach, with access paths designed to make it easier for people with limited mobility to reach it; a section of the beach is also dedicated to the Dog Beach.
To the south, the beach borders the S’Ena Arrubia pond, a natural oasis where flamingos rest, making the area particularly evocative for nature lovers.
