The Roman bridge of Santa Giusta – Panoramic tour

The roman bridge of Santa Giusta, near Oristano

At the gates of Santa Giusta (Oristano) we find the remains of a splendid Roman bridge, which you can observe here thanks to our 360° panoramic photo.

Exploring the bridge

We have already visited the village in the past, to admire the Romanesque style basilica. We are now in the southern area of Santa Giusta, reachable on foot with a beautiful walk through the greenery that runs alongside the pond of the same name.

The bridge, over the Rio Palmas, was part of the infrastructure of the main communication route along the western coast, built in the times of the emperor Trajan (2nd century AD).
It is estimated that the architectural work, made of squared blocks of Fordongianus trachyte, was approximately 30 meters long and made up of five arches.

Near the bridge we still find traces of the ancient road.
